Brian Vargas
Crafting the Invisible in Art and Design
Brian Vargas, hailing from the picturesque town of Cayey, Puerto Rico, is a visionary artist and designer whose journey began with a deep-rooted passion for painting. In 2005, he embarked on his artistic voyage at the prestigious Escuela de Artes Plásticas of Puerto Rico. Vargas is captivated by the challenge of capturing the elusive – from shimmering reflections and sound waves to the gentle touch of the wind and the complex spectrum of human emotions.
In 2014, Vargas discovered a newfound passion for Industrial Design, with a particular focus on furniture creation. This interest was not entirely unexpected, as he grew up assisting in his grandfather, Mr. Edilberto Quiles – a renowned cabinetmaker and artisan of Cayey – in crafting kitchen furniture. This early exposure sowed the seeds for his later pursuits.
Vargas’ design career is a continuation of his artistic exploration, with each discipline enriching the other. His student years have been marked by remarkable creations like “Cygnus” (2014), “All of Them as One” (2016), and “Until the End” (2016). As a painter and sculptor, he is dedicated to visualizing the invisible, creating tangible representations of intangible phenomena.
His artistic drive is rooted in the creation and deconstruction of new aesthetic objects. Vargas seeks to build a visual language that narrates the unseen, making the abstract concrete and the imperceptible vivid. Through his work, he invites us to perceive the world beyond the surface, to explore the unseen dimensions of our surroundings.
