Iván Alejandro Báez
A Visionary Artist Shaping the Modern Canvas
Born in 1995, Iván Alejandro Báez Cartagena’s early passion for the arts propelled him from art classes at La Liga de Arte and Taller de Artistas as a teenager to earning a bachelor’s degree from La Escuela de Artes Plásticas in Puerto Rico. His artwork, infused with curiosity, explores deep themes such as metaphysics, spirituality, and societal relations, reflecting the rapid pace and complex identity narratives of modern, internet-era Puerto Rico. Drawing inspiration from a borderless internet culture, Báez integrates global artistic influences and the styles of Rothko, Duchamp, and Freud into his work. Not confined to traditional methods, he ventures into innovative materials and technology use in art.
Báez’s art, transcending mere visual appeal, has graced exhibitions at La Galería Urbe Apie, the Barcelona Night Exposition, and the Puerto Rico Museum of Art, among others, attracting collectors from Puerto Rico to Atlanta. His goal is to elicit deep emotions and transcendence in viewers, defining his style as an exploration of consciousness, capturing the unseen yet profoundly known.
